Three Indian players to watch out for in upcoming West Indies tour
The Indian Cricket team is all set to take on the Caribbean challenge as they are scheduled to travel to West Indies for multi-format series. India will play two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is starting from July 12th. The Indian Cricket Board has already announced squads for Tests and ODIs with Rohit Sharma taking charge in both formats.
However, there have been few new names that can be seen in ODI and Test squads. It is likely that some of the players will get a chance to make their international debuts. In this article, we will have a look at the top three Indian players who can prove their worth in the upcoming series.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal has become a big name in every Indian household after his performance in IPL 2023. The 21-year-old had a splendid season with the bat as he amassed 625 runs in 14 matches averaging at 48.08 with five half-centuries and a hundred. He was the leading run scorer for Rajasthan Royals in the recently ended season.
The young batter has been selected for the Test squad and is also likely to feature in the playing XI with Cheteshwar Pujara missing out on the squad. It would be a great opportunity for the former to continue his form and cement his place in the Indian Test squad.
Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Ruturaj Gaikwad also had a great outing in IPL 2023 as he had 590 runs in 16 matches at an average of 42.14 at a strike rate of 147.50. The 26-year-old is also leading the Pune-based franchise in the Maharashtra Premier League, where he led his team to two wins out of four games played so far.
Gaikwad has been selected in both ODI and Test squads. It could be a great chance for him to cement his place in the ODI squad before the 2023 World Cup with players like Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul out due to injuries.
Mukesh Kumar
Mukesh Kumar has been one of the most unexpected names in the Indian squad for the West Indies tour. Mukesh has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket throughout the years and got his maiden India call for the ODI series against South Africa in 2022.
He made his IPL debut in 2023 for Lucknow Super Giants and took 7 wickets from 10 matches he played. The 29-year-old has been selected in both ODI and Test squads and is likely to make his debut for the Indian team.
