Three potential replacements for Kyle Jamieson in Chennai squad for Indian T20 League 2023

Published on

The Chennai franchise are excellent with the kind of signings they make for the Indian T20 League, and one such buy was Kyle Jamieson. The tall New Zealand fast bowler was bought by the Chennai franchise for INR 1 crore, but due to a back injury, he has been ruled out for a minimum of five months.

Chennai would be on the lookout for a replacement for the fast bowler, who could have been crucial for the side on fast-paced pitches like Mumbai and Bangalore. He also provided an option of lower-order batting and was a handy batter as he could smash a few boundaries during the business end of the innings. Let’s take a look at the three possible replacements for Chennai.

Take a look at the three possible replacements for Chennai: –

1) Dasun Shanaka

Dasun Shanaka has demonstrated consistency in the T20 circuit. In the shortest format, he has played in 85 T20 Internationals, scoring 1,328 runs at a strike rate of 121.83. The 31-year-old has seen success abroad and can do well in Indian conditions.

Shanaka has continuously attacked the opposition right away and expertly completed games for his club. As his team was having trouble, he kept everything together. He has been a key member of the Sri Lankan side and can be a vital player for the Chennai franchise as well.

2) Andrew Tye

Andrew Tye is known to be a T20I specialist and can be a very handy bowler for the Chennai franchise. He can have a similar role to what Dwayne Bravo was used to doing for the franchise in previous editions of the Indian T20 League/

He has the slower ball variations in his skill set along with the knack for hitting yorkers in the final overs. Tye has become a valuable asset for many franchises in the past. The medium-fast bowler has 301 wickets at an economy rate of 8.18 in 214 games. His performance in the Indian T20 League is more than respectable; in 30 games, the Australian has taken 42 wickets at an economy rate of 8.59.

3)Riley Meredith

Riley Meredith of the Hobart Hurricanes took 21 wickets in 14 games during the BBL 2022–23 season and is showing signs of improvement. He had a dismal Indian T20 League run in the last two editions with Punjab and Mumbai, but his recent form could be a reason for his return to the Indian T20 League.

Riley Meredith can knock batters out and has speed and a strong outswing. Because of this, Chennai should consider hiring him to take Jamieson’s place. His height can be the reason why Chennai might go for him as it will be a great bowling option on fast pitches in Mumbai and Bangalore.
