For any international cricketer, it is a dream to win the World Title in the white ball format be it ODI or T20 formats of the game. Australia this year won the ODI World Cup beating India in the final.

While the World Titles have seen terrific competition even the IPL has seen several terrific seasons. Not many players though have gone to win a white-ball World Title and IPL in the same year.

In this list let us take a closer look at the select list of players who have done the special double. Winning either the white ball format world title and the IPL in the same season.

MS Dhoni – ODI World Cup 2011 and IPL 2011 –

The year 2011 was a special year for MS Dhoni as he led the Indian team to their 2nd ODI World Cup title win that year. The then-Indian skipper scored 91 not out versus Sri Lanka in the final to help the Indian team break their 28-year wait to win the title. MS Dhoni also won the IPL 2011 title with Chennai Super Kings to make it a happy double title-winning year.

Sunil Narine – T20 World Cup 2012 and IPL 2012

The West Indian team won their first T20 World Cup title in 2012 beating Sri Lanka in the final. Sunil Narine played a key role in the low-scoring game as Darren Sammy and his side won the title. Earlier in the day, Sunil Narine had made his debut in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders and played a huge role in their maiden IPL title win.

Aaron Finch – ODI World Cup 2015 and IPL 2015

Former Australian skipper and opening batter Aaron Finch was part of the victorious Australian side that won the World Cup title in 2015. The win marked Michael Clarke’s last-ever act in ODI cricket. Just a few months down the line Aaron Finch won the title with Mumbai Indians in 2015. The Australian played just a handful of games before injuring his hamstring but got the winner’s medal in the end.

Josh Hazlewood – T20 World Cup 2021 and IPL 2021

Australia’s pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood had a great few months in the Middle East as he ended up winning two titles. UAE had hosted the second of the IPL 2021 season which saw CSK win the title beating KKR in the final. Josh Hazlewood was MS Dhoni’s key player during the tournament as CSK won their 4th title. Just a few weeks later, Josh Hazlewood was atop the podium again with Australia having won the T20 World Cup beating New Zealand in the final.
