The first ever WPL tournament was played in India with a huge crowd coming to see the games. This season TATA WPL provided a perfect stage for women’s cricketers to demonstrate their talents and skills to the world. From India as well as foreign countries star female cricketers played in WPL. There were many tough matches in last year’s WPL. This tournament has brought some good players together to represent their team. WPL has given a big platform to many young female cricketers to shine.
The first WPL winner were Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians played against Delhi Capitals in the first final of WPL. Throughout the whole tournament, many cricket fans witness high-class performances from players.

1. Meg Lanning (DC)
The former Australia women’s team captain Meg Lanning is playing for Delhi Capitals. In the first season of WPL, she was named captain for the season. Meg Lanning has almost crossed 7000 runs in international cricket, and she has won many trophies with Australia. Around the world, Meg Lanning is considered as best female cricketer and captain.
While playing the first season she was the highest run scorer in WPL. In 14 matches she scored 345 runs with an average of 31.36. Till now she scored one century and two half-centuries and led Delhi Capitals to the final. She has also been awarded with Orange Cap as she was the highest run scorer in the 2023 WPL.
2. Hayley Matthews (MI)
Hayley Matthews is one of the finest players in WPL. She represented Mumbai Indians. For the West Indies women’s team, she made her debut in 2014 while she was just 16 years old. For Mumbai Indies, she scored 271 runs with a strike rate of 154.28 and hit 10 sixes. With 16 wickets from 14 matches, she was also the joint-highest wicket-taker in the league. She won given Purple Cap and the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament award for her performance in the tournament.
3. Issy Wong (MI)
In the eliminator match between Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz Issy Wong’s strong bowling performance helped Mumbai Indians to win the game. Mumbai Indians set a target of 182 runs for the chase. While coming to bowl Issy Wong took wickets of Alyssa Healy and Kiran Navgire. With 15 wickets from 14 matches, she was second highest wicket-taker in the league. She also bowled the fastest ball in 2023 WPL ticking 128 kmph.
4. Nat Sciver-Brunt (MI):
England all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt was the second-highest run-scorer in 2023 WPL. She scored 332 runs from 14 matches with an average of 36.88 runs. In the tournament, she scored three half-centuries and hit 9 sixes and 18 fours. She was the vice-captain of Mumbai Indians. She also took 13 wickets. In the final match against Delhi Capitals, she scored a match-winning knock of 68 runs and was also awarded as Player of the Match award.
5. Tahila McGrath (UPW)
Australian all-rounder Tahila McGrath was third highest run-getter in the WPL. She scored 302 runs from 14 matches with an average of 30.20. In the league, she has scored four half-centuries which is the most by any player. While playing for UP Warriorz she was captain of her team and took 12 wickets.
