International League T20 2023
‘Total Domination’ – Fans laud Mumbai Emirates as they crush Sharjah Warriors to get first win of ILT20
Similar to the season opener, the second ILT20 game between MI Emirates and Sharjah Warriors turned out to be a lopsided affair as MI Emirates crushed Sharjah Warriors by 49 runs. The victory was virtually ensured in the first innings when Kieron Pollard’s side scored a staggering 204 runs after 20 overs.
After losing Evin Lewis and Dawid Malan for ducks on consecutive deliveries in the second over, Sharjah Warriors’ attempt to chase down the enormous score got off was all but over. Despite facing those devastating blows early on, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, a powerful opener, kept hitting boundaries on a regular basis. But he never got any real help from the other side.
Imran Tahir steals the show
Moeen Ali, the captain of the Warriors, got things going but was unable to build on it, and Gurbaz’s valiant effort also went in vain. From that point on, 43-year-old Imran Tahir stole the show as the seasoned spinner took the next three wickets and disrupted the chase. English allrounder Chris Woakes played an explosive innings of 62 off 29 but could only narrow the margin of defeat for Moeen’s side.
The English allrounder earlier in the game chose to bowl first on a belter of a batting surface after winning the toss. MI Emirates eagerly seized the opportunity, scoring a brilliant half-century to put his team on track for a high score. Former Windies captain Nicholas Pooran also contributed to keeping the pressure on the bowlers with a brash 49 off just 30 deliveries.
The scoring rate was, however, slowed as the Warriors attempted to get back into the game by taking a few wickets in the middle overs. However, their dreams were shattered as the veteran all-rounder duo of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard displayed their fireworks in the death overs. A whopping 204 runs were scored by the pair, who added 41 runs in just over three overs.
