ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023
Uncertainty continues in Pakistan as senior players reportedly unhappy with PCB’s proposed central contract
Amidst the roaring success of Pakistan’s cricket teams, a fresh controversy over players’ pay scale has erupted, raising concerns and discontent within the cricketing community. Despite notable victories, such as the Emerging Asia Cup 2023 triumph by the A team and the impressive performance of the senior men’s team in the Test series against Sri Lanka, the issue of player compensation remains a sore point.
Cricket’s soaring popularity worldwide has resulted in players earning substantial sums, particularly through franchise leagues. However, in Pakistan, players feel that they are not being adequately remunerated, leading to growing dissatisfaction. According to reports, the players are set to engage in discussions to address several crucial matters but haven’t signed the Contract yet.
One of the major topics on the agenda will be the players’ demand for increased compensation and the inclusion of insurance coverage for both themselves and their families. Additionally, they will advocate for educational plans to secure their children’s futures and a fair financial share from the Apex Cricket Council.
Players should seek a NOC to participate in franchise cricket
Furthermore, Pakistan players are keen to gain the board’s approval for No Objection Certificates. Which will grant them the freedom to participate in lucrative franchise leagues held worldwide. These leagues offer substantial financial rewards, and players believe they should have the opportunity to partake without hindrance.
Notably, players in Pakistan receive a mere USD 5,000 as their salary. Meanwhile, the PCB demanded an additional USD 25,000 from each player for their participation in the Global T20 Canada tournament. Meanwhile, according to reports, the contracts of Pakistani players expired on June 30.
Despite this, they decided to travel to Sri Lanka and participate in the cricket series. Remarkably, Babar Azam’s squad has been delivering outstanding performances in the Test series against Sri Lanka. They achieved a comprehensive victory in the opening match and are currently leading in the WTC 2023–25 points standings.
