India vs Australia 2023
‘Ussko batao ki yeh India team Sri Lanka nahi hai’ – Twitter divided as Mahela Jayawardene backs Australia to win BGT 2-1
World Cricket’s one of biggest Test series, the Border-Gavaskar series, is about to commence this Thursday. Pat Cummin’s men will face Rohit Sharma’s India at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur for the first Test. The two top-ranked Test teams will go against each other in a series that’ll grab the eyes of the entire cricketing world.
This Test series would be India’s last chance to book a berth in the finals of the Global Test Championship. The Indians are, therefore, expected to give it their all. On the other hand, Australia will try to avoid a third-straight Test series defeat against India. Australia hasn’t won a test series in India since 2015. They have only won two test series in India, in 1969 and 2004. Thus, they have yet to show their dominance in India.
Jayawardene opened up about the upcoming BGT in a Podcast
Many former Cricketers and Pundits, not just from India, are actively interested in previewing and analysing the promising series. Sri Lanka’s former batter, Mahela Jayawardene, is one of them. In the latest episode of Cricket Governing body’s Podcast, Jayawardene said that he hopes Australia will come out victorious in the upcoming series.
The 45-year-old said, “It’s difficult to predict, but being a Sri Lankan, I’m hoping that Australia can go all the way. Probably a 2-1 win for Australia, but it’s going to be a tough one.” Notably, Sri Lanka’s chances of qualifying for the finals of the Global Test Championships depend upon Australia winning the series against India.
It is no surprise that fans took to Twitter to express their views on this significant take from the former Sri Lanka captain. While some thought it was ridiculous to back Australia in this series, considering their head-to-head record against India is tests, others believed that the former veteran knew what he was speaking. Interestingly, many tweets highlighted Australia’s intricate preparations for the series.

I kind of agree with what he said , Australians are well prepared and don’t carry baggage of any player when selecting , unless Indians

I'm not sure if Australia will be able to pull off a win against India, but I'm sure Mahela Jayawardene knows what he's talking about!
