Vadodara police seize 1 crore cash from former India cricketer Tushar Arothe

Cash worth Rs 1 crore was taken from Tushar Arothe’s home in the Pratapgunj neighbourhood of the city, the former coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket team was booked by the Vadodara Police on Saturday. As per the press release by the police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), Arothe provided no clear response when he was asked about the cash. According to the statement, during the SOG raid on Arothe’s home, “grey bags” holding Rs 1.01 crore were discovered.

SOG Inspector V S Patel said, “Two other accomplices named Vikrant Raipatvar and Amit Janit were also found in possession of cash worth Rs 38 lakh… On being questioned, Arothe had no satisfactory reply about the huge sum of cash recovered from the residence and therefore, we initiated proceedings against Arothe, Raipatvar, and Janit under CrPC Section 102 (power to seize property).”

The scheme also involves Arothe’s son Rishi, who has been in legal trouble for betting on cricket and cheating. In light of this most recent development, questions about the former coach and his family’s potential involvement in questionable financial dealings have been raised.

Who is Tushar Arothe?

Born on September 17, 1966, Tushar Arothe is a former Indian first-class cricket player who was a member of the Baroda cricket team from 1986 until 2004. Moreover, out of two players, he was the first one to play more than 100 games for Baroda. Shortly after retiring, he started coaching cricket. In 2005, he was named Baroda’s assistant coach.

Later, in 2006, he was named the team’s under-15 coach and in 2007, he was named the under-19 coach. He was the Baroda women’s team coach for two years starting in 2008. However, in 2010, he accepted an offer from the Tripura Cricket Association and resigned from the Baroda Cricket Association. Before being named head coach of the Indian national women’s cricket team in 2013, he was the coach of the Chhattisgarh cricket team. Moreover, his son Rishi is also a first-class cricketer.
