India’s run-machine Virat Kohli has got another record against his name as he becomes the first Indian player to score 1000 runs in Bangladesh in the One Day International in the third ODI against the Bangla Tigers on Saturday, December 10.

The Bangalore franchise skipper was 15 runs short of the milestone before the start of the third ODI and he did it without breaking much sweat. Behind him is the master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar, who has smashed 827 runs in 16 matches at an average of 51.68 with two centuries and five half-centuries.

The Delhi-born cricketer had a chance to achieve this milestone in the first two ODIs at Dhaka where Shakib Al Hasan and Ebadot Hossain dismissed him cheaply. He achieved this milestone at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. However, the right-hand batter put his best foot forward in the third match of the series.

India set a mountainous target for Bangladesh in the third ODI

In the recent edition of the 20-20 World Cup, he became the first Indian player to score 1000 runs in a 20-20 World Cup fixture against South Africa. Since the match against South Africa, Kohli has scored 1001 runs in 24 matches in T20 World Cup at an average of 89.90 and a strike rate of 132.04. He is the second-highest run scorer in the tournament.

In the third ODI against Bangladesh, Ishan Kishan became the fourth Indian to score a double hundred after Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Rohit Sharma. Ishan Kishan played like it was a T20I game as he smashed 210 runs from 131 balls with 24 fours and 10 massive sixes at a strike rate of 160.31. Kishan and Kohli together built up a partnership of 290 runs for the second wicket.

Virat Kohli supported him as well, on the other side, as he scored the 72nd century of his International career which helped him surpass the great Ricky Ponting, who has 71 centuries against his name. He scored 113 runs off 91 balls at a strike rate of above 124 with 11 fours and 2 sixes. India scored a mammoth score of 409 in the first innings and gave the hosts a target of 410 for clean sweeping the series.
