The Men in Blue have posted a massive total of 357/8 against Sri Lanka in their seventh game of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the iconic Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, Team India created history as it had the highest total in the history of the ODI World Cup without any centuries.

Speaking about the game here, it was Sri Lankan skipper Kusal Mendis who won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. Notably, after being sent to bat first, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma departed for just 4 runs at his native ground. However, it was Virat Kohli who stitched over the great knock with Shubman Gill to help Team India boost their top order.

India’s stalwart Virat Kohli piles up 88 runs from 94 balls, featuring 11 boundaries, whereas Shubman Gill gets 92 runs. Following him, middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer stood up and scored 82 runs. However, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul also managed to score a few runs, which helped them post a great total against the Sri Lankan side.

Magnificent to watch on the partnership between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli: Shreyas Iyer

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer expressed his happiness during the innings break. The stylish right-handed batsman reveals that the wicket was good with extra bounce. In addition, the middle-order batsman was ecstatic to watch the great partnership between Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill.

“I think it was a pretty good wicket to bat, the ball was coming on and there was some nice bounce. I could settle for a while and then play my shots. It was magnificent to watch (the partnership between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli), and the way they took the singles, twos and boundaries, they laid the platform for us. We were told that the oddball was stopping and holding a bit, so it was a good partnership that they had and it helped us later on,” Shreyas Iyer said.
