‘Wah kya khela Netherlands ne ‘ – Fans react as the Netherlands beat Bangladesh by 87 runs in ODI World Cup 2023

The seasons of shocks in the ODI World Cup 2023 continued as Bangladesh were humbled by the Netherlands in a one-side game in Kolkata. With this loss now, Bangladesh are on the cusp of exit along with England who have slipped to number ten in the table.

Scott Edwards won the toss and chose to bat first. Both teams made two changes to their playing XI. Veteran Wesley Barresi was back, while Shiraz Ahmed came in for Roelof Van Der Merwe. Bangladesh had Taskin Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan coming in for Nasum Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud.

The Netherlands were thrashed by a massive margin of 309 runs in their last game versus Australia in New Delhi. The Bangladeshi team had also lost by a huge margin to South Africa in the previous game in Mumbai.

The Netherlands won their second game of the tournament –

Batting first, the Netherlands found themselves reeling at 4/2 in the 3rd over of the game. Shoriful Islam got the wicket of Max O Dowd for a duck. Taskin Ahmed then accounted for Vikramjit Singh for 3 caught by Shakib AL Hasan.

Wesley Barresi and Colin Ackermann then added 59 runs for the third wicket. The veteran batter was out after scoring 41 runs in a run-a-ball effort. Netherlands lost two more wickets Colin Ackermann for 15 and Bas De Leede for 17 to struggle at 107/5.

Scott Edwards and Sybrand Engelbrecht then added 78 runs for the 6th wicket. The Dutch skipper was the top scorer as he fell for 68 runs from 89 balls with the help of 6 fours. Engelbrecht with 35 and Logan Van Beek with 23 then helped the Dutch post 229 on the board.

Chasing 230 to win the Dutch bowlers came out all guns blazing as Aryan Dutt removed Litton Das for three. Logan Van Beek then got the wicket of Tanzid Hasan for 15. This was followed by Paul Van Meekeren getting Najmul Shanto for 9 and Shakib Al Hasan for 5. The pacer then got his third wicket when he bowled Mushfiqur Rahim for 1.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah tried to fight back but that was stopped in its tracks. Despite the efforts from the lower order batters, Netherlands hung onto win their 2nd game of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.
