WATCH: Crowd at Wankhede stadium chants ‘Maxwell, Maxwell’ when he was down with cramps in ODI World Cup 2023 clash vs Afghanistan

The five-time world champions Australia thrashed Afghanistan by three wickets during their eighth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 7 at Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, Glenn Maxwell was the hero of the game as he smashed his double century and shattered multiple records in his innings against the Shahidi-led Afghan side.

The 35-year-old cricketer makes sure that his side gets to win the game despite being reduced to 97/7 against Afghanistan. Notably, the RCB stalwart piled up unbeaten 201 runs from just 128 balls, featuring 21 boundaries and 10 sixes with a solid strike rate of 158 to guide his side to the semi-final spot.

However, a beautiful moment caught my attention at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, the great cricketer was injured during the last few overs of the game, and he lay down on the ground owing to difficult pain. Meanwhile, the Wankhede Crowd suddenly started chanting his name, Maxwell Maxwell, to support him in finishing the game for his side.

I have got both legs and then I had a back spasm when I hit the ground: Glenn Maxwell

Meanwhile, Australia’s middle-order batsman revealed that he had a leg injury and a hamstring injury when he was hitting the ground. However, the stylish right-handed batsman took the injury on the simpler side without overthinking much, as he found a way and the perfect reason to win the game by hitting the magnificent shots only.

“But as I went, ‘Oh no, I am cramping’. I’ll cramp in. My left hamstring at the same time. So, I was like, I have got both legs and then I had a back spasm when I hit the ground. But it probably made the whole job a little bit simpler. I wasn’t sort of overthinking the situation, I just knew if I got a ball that I could hit, I would try and hit it,” Glenn Maxwell was quoted as saying in a video uploaded on Apex Cricket Council.
