WATCH: Aaron Finch gets nasty blow on hand of Ben Dwarshuis delivery in Big Bash League 2022-23

The Sydney Sixers locked horns with Melbourne Renegades in the 18th match of the 2022-23 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). Renegades skipper Nic Maddinson has won the bat flip and elected to bowl at the Sydney Cricket Ground. New Zealand opener Martin Guptill and Peter Handscomb made their BBL debut for the Renegades side. Also left-hand batter Shaun Marsh returns back to the side after overcoming a calf injury, while Kane Richardson returns after being rested from the Renegades’ loss to the Hobart Hurricanes.

On the fourth ball of the second over, left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis bowled a delivery that jumped from a length and smashed Finch on the bottom hand. That won’t ease any nerves in the Renegades dressing room.

You lose a player that’s been quite influential for four games for us: David Saker

Blackcaps player Guptill replaced West Indies star all-rounder Andre Russell after completing his short term at the franchise. “You lose a player that’s been quite influential for four games for us, but we get a guy that’s played over 300 games of T20 and straight away seems to fit in,” Renegades coach David Saker said.

In the Sixers’ victory over the Melbourne Stars on Monday night, experienced spinner Stephen O’Keefe missed the game due to a hamstring strain. In their most recent game, the Sixers defeated the Melbourne Stars by seven wickets after chasing 151 in 19.1 overs with captain Henriques making a half-century. With three victories in their first four games, the Renegades are now in third place on the points chart. They had three straight victories to start the season, but they dropped their final game.

On the other hand, the Renegades side had won three consecutive games, but their winning streak came to an end in their last encounter with the Hobart Hurricanes, in which they lost by eight runs.

This match was won by the Sixers as they defeated the Renegades by 34 runs and finished the match in the 19th over. Dwarshuis was awarded the Man of the Match award for his brilliant spell of 4-1-17-4.
