Watch: Afridi Duels: Shahid Afridi lofts Shaheen Afridi for six in practice session, later gives batting tips

Published on

Shaheen Afridi, who is set to marry former Pakistan allrounder Shahid Afridi’s daughter Ansha Afridi, was seen indulging in a cricketing duel with his soon-to-be father-in-law. Shahid was seen smashing Shaheen for a six in a practice session before the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season that starts on February 13. The 45-year-old then went on to give some batting advice to Shaheen.

Shaheen, who has joined the Lahore Qalandars training sessions ahead of their PSL season, was recovering from a knee injury sustained during a 20-20 World Cup game against England. However, he now looks on the road to full fitness, as suggested by the clips from training where he is seen bowling with full flow.

‘Always a pleasure playing with you’ – Shaheen Afridi on Shahid Afridi

Shahid, who until recently was the interim chief of the selection committee for the PCB, smashed the young Pakistani speedster for a six. In the video, Shahid and Shaheen face each other in an open-net session. Shaheen later reshared the video with the message, “Always a pleasure playing with you Lala  [lekin asal mei out tha [in reality, it was out].”

Here are the videos:

Later, Shahid was seen bowling to Shaheen. The experienced allrounder then gave a few batting tips to the 22-year-old on his batting stance and bat swing. Shaheen looked in good wicket-taking form before sustaining an unfortunate injury that has kept him out of action since November last year. He took a cumulative 11 wickets in his last five outings, all of which were in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. These included two 3-wicket hauls against Bangladesh and South Africa.

Unlike Shaheen, Shahid was always handy with the bat as well. Therefore, his batting tips must be valuable for the development of the youngster, who has got to double figures only once in his last 10 international outings. On the other hand, Shahid announced the 2022 PSL campaign with Quetta Gladiators to be his last. While Shahid will not feature in the PSL 2023, Shaheen’s Lahore Qalandars will be in action on the first day. They will face Multan Sultans in the season-opener at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
