The defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) registered a convincing victory in Match 62 of IPL 2023 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to confirm their qualification into the playoffs of the ongoing season. GT now have won nine out of their 13 matches played so far, which also means that they are going to finish in the top two after the league stage for the second consecutive year.

However, GT head coach Ashish Nehra didn’t seem happy with the way his team batted in the last few overs of the first innings as he was seen getting engaged in a heated argument with the skipper Hardik Pandya where he was seen frustrated and angry from his face. Batting first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, GT were looking in a commendable position to post a big total past 200 with Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan at the crease. The duo put up a 147-run partnership for the second after Wriddhiman Saha got out for a duck in the very first over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

After Sudharsan got out in the 16th over after scoring 47 runs off 36 balls, GT lost momentum again and kept losing wickets at regular intervals with taking the innings further from the other end. The 23-year-old completed his maiden IPL century in the 19th over and the hosts were hoping on him to stay till the end and take the team past 200 runs. However, Nehra didn’t seem too enthusiastic on his century due to the regular fall of wickets

GT lost 4 wickets in the final over

Gill got out in the first ball of the 20th over bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar after scoring 101 runs off 58 balls. On the very next delivery, the SRH pacer stuck again as he dismissed Rashid Khan for a golden duck. And on the third ball of the over, SRH got a team hat trick after Noor Ahmad got run out. A delivery later, Bhuvneshwar completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Mohammed Shami for a golden duck. He finished with the figures of 5/30 in his four overs.

GT could only score 2 runs and went on to lose 4 wickets in the final over of the innings. They posted a total of 188 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. After that, Nehra couldn’t control his anger and burst out the skipper Pandya for the unwanted collapse in the final over.

However, it didn’t made any difference as GT bowlers didn’t gave any chance to SRH batters to get closer to their total as they kept taking regular wickets from the first over. Heinrich Klaasen turned out to be a lone warrior for the Orange Army as he got out after scoring 64 runs off 44 balls. At last, SRH could only reach 154 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma were the main anchors of GT’s bowling as they took 4-4 wickets each.
