Watch: Brian Lara joins St George’s Band and plays trumpets during a game in SA20

SA 20 has come up to be one of the most entertaining leagues in T20 cricket. In the first 17 matches of the tournament, the fans have got to see some breathtaking T20 action. The match 17th was no different as Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings got head-to-head against each other. Apart from the cricketing action, a heartwarming moment involving the West Indies legend Brian Lara.

During the match, Lara joined the St George’s Band which was playing the trumpets during the match and enjoying itself. The cricket legend also began playing the trumpets with the band and grooving to the tunes of the song they were playing.

Coming back to the match, Joburg Super Kings captain Faf Du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first. Sunrisers openers Adam Rossington and Jordan Hermann couldn’t get their team to a brilliant start as Hermann was dismissed with the score on 16. Sunrisers further lost one more wicket on the same score as Sarel Erwee was run out by Du Plessis.

Captain Aiden Markram also failed to contribute with the bat as he returned to the pavilion after scoring just 5 off 8 balls. While wickets tumbled at one end, Rossington continued his innings at the other end.

Aaron Phangiso stars in Joburg Super Kings’ win

Wickets continued to fall for the Sunrisers as they were left reeling at 62/6 after 10 overs. A 40-run stand between JJ Smuts and Rossington helped them cross the 100-run mark. A vital knock of 27 off 20 balls by James Fuller helped the Sunrisers reach the total of 127.

Gerald Coetzee and Aaron Phangiso picked up 4 wickets each for Joburg. In reply, the Super Kings lost their opener, Reeza Hendricks, early in the innings. Captain Du Plessis took the innings ahead with his 37-run knock. Leus du Plooy played an unbeaten knock of 47 from 40 balls which helped his side chase down the total in 19.4 overs.

Aaron Phangiso was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his spell of 4/20 in 4 overs.
