WATCH: Chicago fans boo AEW president Tony Khan after firing CM Punk

Wrestling fans around the world were stunned by the latest development that has taken place. All Elite Wrestling, which is the number two wrestling organization in the USA, has terminated the contract of CM Punk.

Phil Brooks, as he is known, has been with All Elite Wrestling since 2021. The termination took place late on Saturday. This came into place after there was an internal investigation after CM Punk and Jungle Boy had a brawl backstage.

The brawl in question took place during the All Elite Wrestling event ALL-IN which took place in London. Both the wrestlers in question were then suspended from the organization with internal inquiries being conducted.

Chicago crowd boo Tony Khan –

All Elite Wrestling held its ‘AEW Collision’ show from Chicago the city, where CM Punk is from. Chicago has been a town where AEW has conducted a lot of their shows since the debut of CM Punk in 2021.

Tony Khan, who happens to be the boss of All Elite Wrestling, came out to address the crowd. Just as Tony Khan began to cut his promo the entire crowd in unison began to boo him. The Chicago faithful were venting their ire at one of their favourite performers being released.

The next event of All Elite Wrestling is also supposed to take place in Chicago. The event which is to be held on Sunday is called AEW All-Out. CM Punk was supposed to be part of the show, but his suspension and later termination put paid to the hopes.

Interestingly enough, All-Out was the pay-per-view that began the troubles between CM Punk and the company. The wrestler had cut a vicious after-event speech with Tony Khan by side. CM Punk went on to call out the Elite (Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, and their friend Hangman Page).

This was followed by a physical altercation between the parties while the press conference was still going on. CM Punk, who was injured, was later suspended as there were talks of the company giving him his release.

CM Punk returned in June 2023 and it seemed as if everything was okay for a while. Issues again arose after Punk, who was the face of the AEW Collision show, asked Jungle Boy not to use real glass during a match. Jungle Boy then used real glass during the all the ALL IN PPV and apparently taunted CM Punk. This resulted in the pair having a backstage fight.

The future seems unclear for CM Punk, as the 44-year-old still has to make a statement. There are already talks of a return to World Wrestling Entertainment in the near future. The question is whether that will happen after the bad blood between the two parties which began in 2014.
