WATCH: Clutch save from Manish Pandey near boundary ropes in Maharaja Trophy final 2023
The captain of Hubli Tigers, Manish Pandey, pulled off one of the craziest saves on the field in recent times, which helped his team in the long run to win the match and the tournament. The successful save from Pandey near the boundary ropes not only saved 4 runs for his team but also decided the fate of the final, as the batters in the middle could not score many runs after that.
It was the last over of the final of the Maharaja Trophy 2023 in M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. 13 runs were needed in the last 6 balls for Mysuru Warriors with just 4 wickets in hand. Jagadeesha Suchith had scored 12 runs in 8 balls and Shivkumar Rakshith had scored 10 runs in 5 balls till that point. Manvanth Kumar L was asked to defend the target in the last over.
The 19-year-old bowled a sensational last over and conceded only 3 runs and helped his team to win. But what took the cake was the incredible save from the captain. The first ball of the over fetched a wicket for the Tigers, as Manvanth dismissed Rakshith. The second ball yielded just a run. With 11 runs needed in 4 balls, the pressure was on the batter to get a boundary at any cost.
Incredible save under pressure from Manish Pandey
Manvanth bowled a slower one outside off. Suchith tried to clear the mid-wicket boundary, but the timing was imperfect. Despite a mishit, the ball seemed to travel towards the long-off boundary. The commentators thought it was going to travel for a six. To everyone’s surprise, Pandey jumped, caught the ball, and threw it back before he could make contact with the boundary ropes.
It was a stunning effort from the captain of the Tigers, But the most impressive thing was his commitment and agility to pull off the feat. Under pressure, it was very difficult to pull off such an effort. But the class of Pandey was on display for everyone, as the effort won the match for his team.
