WATCH: Virat Kohli stunner dismisses Mitchell Marsh for duck in 5th Match, ODI World Cup 2023

Team India locked horns against Australia on October 8 to commence the journey of the ODI World Cup 2023 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This was a terrific start for Team India, as lethal pacer Jasprit Bumrah had dismayed Australia’s star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh on duck. Notably, the fabulous catch was taken by India’s stalwart Virat Kohli.

Talking about the match, it was the Australian skipper who won the toss and invited the hosts to field first. Notably, after being elected to bat first, they got reduced to 5/1 owing to the stellar display by Jasprit Bumrah and the stunning catch by Virat Kohli. Moreover, Rohit Sharma and Co. will be looking to restrict them to a narrow score.

Meanwhile, India’s captain Rohit Sharma revealed that they are quite confident in their opening game of the ODI World Cup 2023, owing to their best performance in the Asia Cup 2023 as well as the recently won series against Australia, which places them in the top spot in the ODI ranking. However, the 36-year-old skipper has revealed that India’s opening batter, Shubman Gill, failed to recover, and Ishan Kishan replaced him to open the innings.

Virat Kohli has now taken the most catches as a fielder for India in World Cup history

“The conditions are there for the bowlers, slightly on the slower side. We need to understand our lines and lengths early. We’ve played a lot of cricket before the WC, played two good series’ and covered all our bases. He (Shubman Gill) hasn’t recovered in time. Ishan comes in to replace him, he will open the batting,” Rohit Sharma said at the toss.

Notably, Team India has opted to go with all three spinners owing to the spin-friendly pitch against Australia. In addition, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj took the place of the pace attackers alongside Hardik Pandya. However, it was yet another lethal bowling spell by Jasprit Bumrah. Notably, Virat Kohli became the top player to take the most catches in the history of the ODI World Cup.
