WATCH: Indian team’s shocking fielding display, drop three early chances against Nepal in Asia Cup 2023
Nepal Cricket Team are playing their first big tournament in this Asia Cup 2023. A team with a sum total of 58 ODI’s is putting the Indian bowling to the sword. Pallekele International Cricket Ground witnessed India and Nepal play their 2nd game of Asia Cup 2023.
Rohit Sharma surprised everyone once again as he won the toss yet again. The Indian captain this time chose to bowl first. The reason behind this move was to give the Indian bowlers some practice as the last game was rained out.
India made one change to the team. Mohammad Shami was recalled in place of Jasprit Bumrah who is in India for personal reasons. Nepal also made one change to their playing XI. Bhim Sharki came in place of Aarif Shaikh.
India drops three easy catches as Nepal comes with a fiery start –
It was an ordinary fielding display by India to begin the must-win game against Nepal. The final ball of the first over saw Shubman Gill drop an easy chance. Kushal Bhurtel edged one to Gill off the bowling of Shami as the youngster put it down.
Mohammad Siraj was given the new ball from the other and the 29-year-old also had an impact. Aasif Shaikh leaned into a drive and mistimed the ball as the ball went to Virat Kohli. The former India skipper though put down an easy catch much to the shock of everyone.
The third chance of the day came in the 2nd ball of the fifth over with Shami bowling to Bhurtel. The Nepal opener went for a pull shot only to an edge as it flew to Ishan Kishan. The Indian wicket-keeper though grassed the chance to make it three dropped chances in the first five overs. The Indian fans couldn’t believe what they were witnessing as India is known to be a good fielding side.

Nepal got off to a fiery start as Bhurtel and Shaikh added 65 runs for the 1st wicket in 9.5 overs. Bhurtel was the most aggressive batter of the two as he scored 35 runs off a mere 25 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. The opening stand was broken by Shardul Thakur when he had Bhurtel nick behind in the 10th over of the innings.
