WATCH: Jimmy Peirson gets nasty head-blow of Nathan McAndrew’s bouncer in BBL12

In the 17th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23, Brisbane Heat locked horns with Sydney Thunder at the Sydney Showground Stadium. After being hit in the head by a 132 km/h delivery, Brisbane batter Jimmy Peirson looked in pain, and the medical team was called onto the field immediately to check the batter’s well-being.

Peirson was surprised by a climbing Nathan McAndrew delivery as a beautiful top edge clattered the ball into his helmet on Tuesday against the Thunder in a game that needed to be won. After receiving a blow to the back of the head against the Renegades last Wednesday night, Peirson coped a hit yet again to the helmet, making it twice in less than a week. Later, as Thunder players raced to help Peirson, the ball struck him in the neck and shoulder which caused him to fall to the ground.

“It’s tough to watch that! That got him good. “He got one in Geelong on back of his head (against the Renegades), now this,” Fox Cricket commentator Dan Christian said. Peirson, fortunately for the Heat, passed his concussion test and continued to bat until being dismissed for 27 off 24 just as Brisbane was about to take its power surge.

Before that, Sydney Thunder skipper Chris Green delivered two opening blows to the Brisbane Heat, who were unable to find any runs. Green had a devastating spell at the Sydney Showground, dismissing both Max Bryant (1 off 7) and Matt Renshaw (9 off 10) before the game for the first time since star recruit Fazalhaq Farooqi was fired.

As the Heat sank to 1-3 after two overs, the Thunder had the Heat under control early. In just four games, the proud Sydney franchise has had the worst BBL season ever; they are currently last on the table with just one win. However, on Tuesday evening, they returned to form on the field when they sent Sam Billings, a former teammate from the Thunder, back to the dugout for just one out. The Heat limped to 3-44 at the midway point and just couldn’t get going with the bat.
