WATCH: Mark Wood uproots Usman Khawaja’s off-stump with a rocket delivery during third Ashes Test

Published on

The third Test match of the ongoing Ashes series between England and Australia is being played at Headingley. Australia are already 2-0 up in the series after winning in Birmingham and London. However, the visitors didn’t have a great start in the third Test as they already lost both their openers before Lunch on Day 1.

Warner was the first batter to lose his wicket as he was dismissed by Stuart Broad in the very first over of the day. After a few overs, Khawaja also went back to the pavilion after scoring just 13 runs. His dismissal was the one to watch out for as the England pacer Mark Wood cleaned his off-stump with a delivery that clocked 94.6 mph in terms of pace.

Khawaja had no idea of the delivery as the opener stood rooted to his spot. He did not attempt to play the ball nor could he get the bat in the ball’s pathway. It found the gap between the bat and the pad and went on to hit the leg stump.

Australia’s Todd Murphy gets Ashes debut, Harry Brook replaces injured Ollie Pope in England’s playing XI

Talking about the match, Australia had one change in their playing XI as off-spinner Todd Murphy made his Ashes debut after Nathan Lyon has been officially ruled out of the remainder of the series. Lyon sustained a significant “calf tear,” during the second Test. Lyon got injured while fielding on Day 2 which made him hobble off the field and didn’t bowl or field again.

Meanwhile, the hosts England also made one change in their squad as the vice-captain Ollie Pope sustained a shoulder injury while fielding early in the Lord’s Test. After that, the scans undergone in London on Monday revealed the full extent of his injury. The 25-year-old is now told to rest for the remaining English summer and is likely to undergo surgery in the future. Pope’s injury made way for Harry Brook to bat at number three for England in the third Test.
