WATCH: Mohammed Shami bowls a peach to take bails off Marnus Labuschagne’s off stump on Day 1, WTC 2021-23 Final

Marnus Labuschagne was in awe of senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami when the top-ranked batter was questioned about the Indian pacer’s bowling prowess prior to the World Test Championship final between India and Australia at The Oval, London. “His seam is always pointing dead straight, great wrist position,” Labuschagne said about Shami. Pacer Shami was on the money the following day at the legendary venue, and Australia’s Labuschagne was his first victim.

Veteran bowler Shami made his breakthough against Australia in the World Test Championship final by dismissing an on-song Labuschagne with a peach of a delivery. Shami outfoxed the Australian batter with an incredible ripper, showing off his signature seam stance. The official social media accounts also posted the video of Labuschagne’s dismissal.

Here’s the video:

Marnus Labuschagne could only manage 26 off 62 balls

When the No. 1 Test batsman was bowled by Shami in the 25th over, Labuschagne was expecting to capitalise on his start. Interestingly, following the lunch break, Shami eliminated Labuschagne with the very first ball. In his seventh over, experienced fast bowler Shami cleaned up the top batter by forcing Labuschagne to drive with a powerful delivery that went through the gate of the Australian batsman. In the first innings, Labuschagne played a patient knock of 26 from 62 balls.

More information about the game: Australia scored 73/2 at Lunch on Day 1 of the WTC final due to Labuschagne’s outstanding batting performance against India. In the first session of the Ultimate Test, Mohammed Siraj, a teammate of Shami’s, delivered a 10-ball duck to star batter Usman Khawaja. While all-rounder Shardul Thakur dismissed seasoned Australian opener David Warner in the 21.4 overs, Siraj defeated Australian starter Khawaja.

For the second time, India is taking part in the renowned one-off Test match. They had earlier lost to New Zealand by eight wickets in the 2021 WTC championship game at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl. Mohammed Siraj’s breakthrough for India came when Usman Khawaja was out for a duck off the fourth delivery of the third over of the Australian innings. Australia didn’t get going until the fourth delivery of the third over because Siraj and Mohammed Shami opened the third over by bowling two maidens.
