Match number 16 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 season saw Barbados Royals take on Saint Lucia Kings. The game was played at the Kensington Oval ground in Barbados. The home team needed a win in a bid to stay alive in the tournament.

Barbados came into the game having played 5 games having won two and lost two and one game getting washed out. Rovman Powell saw his side lose their third game of the season by a massive 90 runs on Saturday. This effectively knocks Barbados Royals out of the tournament.

Barbados won the toss and chose to bowl first. Rovman Powell opted to go into the game with an unchanged side. Saint Lucia Kings on the other made three changes with T20 specialist Colin Munro making a comeback to the XI.

Cornwall power sends the ball soaring high –

Rahkeem Cornwall and Kyler Mayers have been the sole positives for Barbados Royals this season. The 30-year-old Cornwall has been giving Barbados Royals blazing starts with the bat this season.

Rahkeem Cornwall was facing off against Matthew Forde in the 5th ball of the 3rd over. Forde bowled a slower ball as Cornwall waited for it and hit out of the ground for a huge six. The ball traveled out of the ground and the distance was a massive 101 meters.

Put into bat, Saint Lucia Kings openers Colin Munro and Johnson Charles began with a 97-run stand. The partnership came in 10 overs before Munro fell for 33 runs off 27 balls. The top scorer was Johnson Charles with 78 off 52 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes.

There were a few handy contributions lower down the order. Roshon Primus scored while Captain Sikandar Raza used the long handle. Raza scored 18 off 8 balls with 2 sixes while Roston Chase was not out on 11 off 5 balls. This helped Saint Lucia Kings reach 195 from their 20 overs.

Chasing 196, Kyle Mayers was out for a first-ball duck. Young Alick Athanaze was out for 4 as Cornwall soon fell for 18. Barbados never got going as they were totally outplayed by their opposition. Laurie Evans was out for a duck as Rovman Powell fell for 5.

Nyeem Young top scored with 20, while Jason Holder scored 18. Barbados Royals were all out for 105 in the 18th over. Alzarri Joseph picked 3 for 7 from his 2.3 overs to blow the home side away. This huge loss means that the net run rate for Barbados is now badly dented.
