Watch: Rashid Khan pulls of a screamer to get rid of Kyle Mayers in IPL 2023

The Gujarat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants played out a high-scoring encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat. GT hammered the LSG bowlers all over the place and scored a monstrous 227-2 in their 20 overs. Wriddhiman Saha made a stroke-filled 81 off 43 balls with 10 fours and four sixes. Shubman Gill made a pristine 94 off 51 balls with two fours and seven sixes.

Rashid Khan took a ripper of a catch to dismiss the dangerous Kyle Mayers. It was a slower shot ball bowled by Mohit Sharma. Mayers went for the hook shot and got a big top edge which meant the ball went to deep square leg. Rashid quickly sprints to his right to complete an outstanding diving catch. The wrist-spinner had to cover a lot of ground to get to the ball. It was tremendous anticipation from Rashid to get to the ball and snaffle the catch.

Mohit Sharma picked up a four-wicket haul for Gujarat Titans

Mayers, who was looking good on 48, was dismissed. The West Indian hit seven fours and two sixes in his knock. His burst at the top was never going to be enough as LSG were already feeling the scoreboard pressure. GT overpowered LSG in all departments. Mohit was outstanding with the ball as he picked up 4-29 in his four overs spell.

It was the battle of the brothers for the first time in the IPL. Krunal Pandya was leading LSG as KL Rahul was ruled out of the 2023 IPL due to injury. Hardik took on the responsibility of captaining GT from 2022 onwards and led them to an IPL title in their inaugural season. It was clearly Hardik who had the edge over Krunal as GT beat LSG by 56 runs and Hardik scored over Krunal in the battle of the brothers.

LSG could only muster 171-7 in their 20 overs. Barring Quinton de Kock who made 70 off 41 balls with seven fours and three sixes and Mayers, the other batters just did not step up to the plate. LSG’s net run rate took a big hammering. GT now have 16 points with eight wins and three losses.
