WATCH: Star India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant bats for first time since near fatal car accident
Star India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been phenomenal throughout his rehabilitation process. After facing a near-fatal car accident in December 2022, Pant has shown an ultimate fighting tendency by getting fit in record time. In the latest development, a video of him batting in a competitive game is going viral on social media platform X (previously Twitter).
It’s worth noting that in the last health update by the Indian Cricket Board on July 21, it was stated that Pant has resumed batting and keeping practises. A recent social media post captured his return to the field. In the viral video, a decent crowd can be seen around the ground. Cheers erupted as Pant strode to the crease, and he thrilled fans with a powerful lofted shot towards long-off, garnering tremendous support. This video marks Pant’s first on-field public appearance since his rehabilitation began.

Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that Rishabh Pant had undergone ligament surgery earlier this year. He is currently rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy along with players like KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. According to the Indian Cricket Board’s health update, Pant is following a special recovery process. “He is currently following a fitness programme designed for him that includes strength, flexibility, and running,” the board stated.
Will KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer make a comeback?
Apart from Pant, India awaits players like KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer to make a comeback for the national team. Both Rahul and Iyer are rehabbing in NCA following their injuries. As the Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 are on the horizon, India would like them to make a comeback as soon as possible. According to recent news reports, Rahul is almost set to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup, while there is no clarity about Shreyas Iyer.
It’s worth noting that India will face Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup on September 2. The continental tournament will start on August 31 in a hybrid model in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. After that, India will host Australia in a three-match ODI series to fine-tune their preparations for the ODI World Cup, which will start on October 5 in India itself.
