The four-time champions Chennai Super Kings played their last home game against Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. After the match, all players from CSK including the skipper MS Dhoni took a leap of honour all around the stadium to thank the fans for showering their support throughout the season.

During this, a memorable moment was recorded when the Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar became a fanboy and left the live show midway to take an autograph from Dhoni. The CSK skipper gave his autograph on Gavaskar’s shirt and the fans were left amazed after this moment. This was also an emotional moment for the CSK fans as this might be the last time when they were watching Dhoni in action.

KKR still in the qualification race with a convincing win over CSK

Talking about the match, CSK suffered their fifth loss of the season as KKR registered a convincing victory by 6 wickets in match number 61 of IPL 2023. Batting CSK posted 144 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. While KKR chased the winning total in 18.3 overs losing 4 wickets. CSK kept losing wickets at regular intervals as the score was reduced to 72 for 5 in 10.6 overs. Devon Conway got out after scoring 30 off 28 balls hitting three boundaries.

After that, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja took charge of the innings as they both put up a partnership of 68 runs for the sixth wicket. Jadeja got out after playing a slow knock of 20 runs off 24 balls but Dube remained unbeaten 48 runs off 34 balls with one four and three sixes Varun Chakravathy and Sunil Narine took 2 wickets each, while Vaibhav Arora and Shardul Thakur shared a wicket each.

Chasing the winning total, KKR didn’t had a great start as they lost 3 wickets for just 33 runs in 4.3 overs. After that, the skipper Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh added 99 runs for the fourth wicket and took the game away from CSK. Rinku got out after scoring 54 runs off 43 balls with four fours and three sixes. Rana remained unbeaten on 57 runs off 44 balls with six fours and a maximum as KKR chased the winning total with nine balls to spare to keep themselves alive in the tournament. Deepak Chahar took 3 wickets for CSK.

With this win, KKR kept their hopes alive in the tournament. They currently stand in the sixth position at the points table with six wins from 13 matches and will be playing their last league match against Lucknow Super Giants on May 20th.

Meanwhile, CSK are in the second position at the points table but they need to win their upcoming match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley stadium on May 20th. They won seven out of the 13 matches played so far and lost five with one game got washed out due to rain.
