Watch: Umesh Yadav takes blinder to send Rohit Sharma back to pavilion in IPL 2023

The 22nd match of the Indian Premier League 2023 was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, April 16 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Suryakumar Yadav led MI instead of Rohit Sharma as he put himself as an impact player. MI won the toss and invited KKR to put runs on the scoreboard and KKR scored 185 runs in the first innings.

MI started the chase well as Rohit and Ishan Kishan dealt with boundaries only. Meanwhile, Rohit was up against KKR’s leggie Suyash Sharma in the penultimate delivery of the fifth over when he was served with a full delivery on off. Rohit decided to simply push but it ended up getting a leading edge and out of nowhere, speedster Umesh Yadav came sprinting into the frame and flung his body at the ball with both his hands outstretched and took an outstanding catch.

Brilliant batting performance by MI

Talking about the match, asked to bat first KKR’s openers disappointed, once again, as N Jagadeesan got out on a duck and Rahamanullah Gurbaz departed after scoring only 8 runs off 12 balls. It was only Venkatesh Iyer, who looked in great touch today for KKR as he smashed his maiden century in IPL and also broke KKR’s 15-year century drought which came in 2008 by Brendon McCullum. Iyer’s breathtaking knock helped KKR to achieve a fighting total of 185 runs.

Chasing the target, Rohit and Kishan gave a blistering start to MI as they raced to 57 within the first four overs of the second innings. Kishan smashed 58 runs off just 25 deliveries which included 5 fours and 5 sixes. His innings helped MI to chase the target easily. Later, Surykumar Yadav, who was struggling to get runs in the season so far, finally played a knock of 43 runs off 25 balls and also smashed 4 fours and 3 sixes. In the end, Tim David took the responsibility and finished the match early in the 18th over.
