The Pakistan team has clinched the top spot in ODIs after defeating Afghanistan by 3-0 in a three-match ODI series on August 26. Notably, the top spot is a major boost for Babar Azam’s side ahead of the Asia Cup, which is all set to take place on August 30 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. In addition, the Men in Green will be playing their first match against Nepal before facing India on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is thrilled to be heading towards the Asia Cup. Notably, the stylish batter says it wasn’t easy to win against Afghanistan due to their world-class spin attacks. Moreover, the right-handed batter is quite confident in carrying this winning momentum to the Asia Cup, and he aims to produce a good show for the fans during the Continental Cup.

“We are excited going into the Asia Cup. The manner of our series victory over Afghanistan will serve us well in the tournament. It wasn’t as easy against Afghanistan as some people think. Everyone is aware of their spin prowess. The momentum we gained in this series will give us confidence in the Asia Cup. We are hopeful of producing good cricket for our fans,” Babar Azam said on PCB Digital.
In addition, the 28-year-old cricketer also expresses his feelings about his side clinching the top spot in ODIs again. Moreover, the Lahore-born batter believes the top spot gives a lot of satisfaction and joy, as it is the result of efforts from players, coaches, and supporting staff.
“When you achieve the number 1 position, it gives you a lot of joy and satisfaction. This is the result of the efforts that the entire squad, including the support staff, put in. We were on top of the ODI rankings earlier but dropped to Number 2 after losing a game,” he added further.
