‘We are with you’ – Spanish star Aitana Bonmati dedicates her UEFA award to Jenni Hermoso after FIFA World Cup controversy

Spanish footballer Aitana Bonmati Conca won the UEFA player of the year award on Thursday, August 31. The 25-year-old footballer has dedicated her award to her close teammate, Jennifer Hermosa. Notably, Jennifer Hermosa has been in the news after the President of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, forced a kiss on her lip. This controversy broke out after Spain’s 1-0 victory against England in the FIFA Women’s World Cup final match on August 20.

Notably, the Spanish footballer says one cannot allow abuse of power in an employment relationship, especially as a society. Moreover, the 25-year-old star player dedicated her award to Jennifer Hermosa and to all other women who suffer from the same issues. Furthermore, the midfielder also showed support for her while accepting the award.

“I would like to remember what has happened. We cannot allow an abuse of power in an employment relationship. As a society we cannot allow the abuse of power, I dedicate it to Jennifer Hermosa and to all the women who suffer the same. We are with you,” Aitana Bonamti said, after receiving the award.

Meanwhile, she also congratulated other nominees and felt proud after getting a prestigious award. The young player also says she feels lucky to play the game with some incredible people and expresses gratitude towards them.

“I would like to congratulate all the nominees and I am proud to be here today after the successes we have achieved. I would like to share this award with my teammates, I am lucky to play with some incredible people,” she added further.

Moreover, the great footballer Sarina Wiegman had also dedicated her award to the Spanish women’s national team and supported them after the controversy.

“This team deserves to be celebrated and deserves to be listened to, and I am going to give them again a big applause and I hope you would join me.”
