‘We still haven’t received anything officially’ – Tamim Iqbal likely to miss ODI series against India

Bangladesh has suffered a double blow just before the ODI series against Men in Blue which is scheduled to take place on the 4th of next month. Bangla Tigers skipper Tamim Iqbal is doubtful for the series, starting on Sunday due to a groin injury, while their pacer Taskin Ahmed has been sidelined for the opening match as he is recovering from a back injury. 

A source close to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) informed The Daily Star that it may take two weeks for the ODI captain to recover, and because of this he can miss the first test too.  However, BCB president Nazmul Hassan confirmed that he did not receive any official report on this matter from the medical team. 

“We still haven’t received anything officially from the medical department,” he said while adding, “I’ve heard that they have some issues but we have to know for how many days they will be out.”

Tamim got injured while playing in a warm-up match on Wednesday. On the other hand, Taskin pulled out from a Bangladesh Cricket League match on November 20. 

So far, Tamim has scored 8074 runs in 229 innings at an average of 37.03 and at a strike rate of 78.65. His highest score in ODIs is 158 runs which came against Zimbabwe in March 2020 at Sylhet.
