‘West Indies waale toh 1800 ke cricket khel rahe hai’ – Fans react as strong resistance from West Indies batters frustrate India on Day 3 of 2nd Test

India consolidates their position in the second Test against West Indies after a good third day in Port of Spain on Sunday. On a flat track, West Indies has been batting with a defensive approach, which is a sign of opting for a draw. India, on the other hand, is trying hard to push for a victory. Some time of the day’s play was cut off due to a spell of rain.

West Indies started the day well. The second wicket partnership between captain Brathwaite and Kirk McKenzie lasted for 110 deliveries. It was broken by the debutant Mukesh Kumar, who induced the edge of McKenzie and gave the breakthrough for his team. The resistance continued as Jermaine Blackwood joined the captain. Blackwood played 92 deliveries and scored 20 runs.

Brathwaite scored 75 runs after facing 235 deliveries. After bowling a long spell, Ravichandran Ashwin got rid of the West Indian captain by cleaning him up. Blackwood was undone by the wrecker-in-chief Ravindra Jadeja. India managed to dismiss the top 4 batters of West Indies and made a comeback in the Test match.

Athanaze impresses with his batting

Alick Athanaze showed his composure yet again. The young batter from Dominica was very good in his defense and gave no chance to the Indian bowlers. The likes of Ashwin and Jadeja tried to dismiss the youngster but in vain. At the other end, the wicketkeeper batter Joshua Da Silva was undone by Mohammad Siraj towards the last spell of the day.

Jason Holder joined Athanaze and is involved in an unbeaten 21-run partnership. It is the last recognized batting pair of the West Indies. If the home side must survive in the Test and make any impact on the game, it will be necessary for the duo to bat as long as they can. On the other hand, India must look to dismiss West Indies as soon as possible, score some quick runs and have a go at the batters yet again. The home side trail by 209 runs at the end of the third day.
