‘What a deserving win’ – Fans react as Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Trinbago Knight Riders by 9 wickets to win CPL 2023 Final after decade

The Imran Tahir-led Guyana Amazon Warriors won by nine wickets against the Trinbago Knight Riders in the final of the CPL 2023 on September 24 at Providence Stadium, Guyana,Georgia. Earlier, it was the Guyana Amazon Warriors who won the toss and invited the Pollard-led side to bat first. Notably, after being sent to bat first, they had a terrible start, which allowed them to only post 94 runs before getting all out.

Later, while chasing, the Amazon Warriors had a wonderful start as the star opener, Ayub, remained unbeaten for 52 runs and forged a great partnership with great batter Shai Hope, who also scored 32 runs, to make sure his side crossed the finishing line to lift the trophy of the IPL 2023. Meanwhile, winning skipper Imran Tahir expressed his happiness following the win.

The South African star had a great experience this season. In addition, the leg spinner takes a sly dig at all those people who were sending and creating jokes once he was named as the captain of his franchise. However, the Lahore-born cricketer heaps praise on India’s spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, who encouraged him to do well in the tournament. The 44-year-old cricketer affirms that their side always believed in themselves once they started their play-off journey. Moreover, the right arm-leg spinner expressed happiness at being the first skipper for the side to get the win.

“Beautiful (feeling). Great experience to play for this beautiful franchise and people who always support us. Everyone were sending jokes that I became captain. That actually motivated me, I wanna say thanks to those people. He worked almost 20 hours a day to give us plans. Also want to thank R Ashwin from India. Before the tournament he said our team will do it,” Imran Tahir said during post match presentation.

“Since we started from Saint Lucia we always believed we will go to the semis and the finals.. even though we haven’t found an opener yet, I mean it’s over now (smiles). I am happy that I am the first captain to achieve this for Guyana,” he added further.
