Wimbledon women’s final 2023: Marketa Vondrousova vs Ons Jabeur head-to-head, recent form and more

The 2023 women’s Wimbledon has reached its climax, with Marketa Vondrousova and Ons Jabeur poised to square off in the summit clash on Saturday, July 15. As the two compete for their maiden Grand Slam championship, a new name will be engraved into the Venus Rosewater Dish – Ladies’ Singles Trophy awarded at The Championships, Wimbledon.

Unseeded Vondrousova made a surprise entry into the final and will be looking to follow in the footsteps of fellow Czechs Jana Novotna and Petra Kvitova by winning Wimbledon. On the other hand, sixth seed Jabeur, who lost to Elena Rybakina in last year’s final, will be keen to win the title this time around.

The Tunisian tennis player also lost in the final of the US Open to World No. 1 Iga Swiatek. With a win in London on Saturday, she will become the first woman from Africa and the first Arab woman to win a major. Meanwhile, Vondrousova could win her second career singles title on Saturday after finishing as runner-up in the 2019 French Open final.

Recent form of Marketa Vondrousova and Ons Jabeur

Marketa Vondrousova: While the Czech tennis star had a stunning run at Wimbledon, her 2023 campaign prior to that was not great. She was knocked out in the third round of the Australian Open and the second round of the French Open. She was also eliminated in the quarterfinals of the German Open.

Coming into her Wimbledon performance, despite having to face top players early on, the 24-year-old defeated American Peyton Stearns, 12th seed Veronika Kudermetova, and 20th seed Donna Vekic in straight sets. In the fourth round, her compatriot Marie Bouzkova posed a threat after taking the first set, but Vondrousova came back to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Ons Jabeur: After returning from injury, Jabeur won the clay-court tournament in Charleston before reaching the semi-final of Stuttgart. However, the 28-year-old was disappointed at French Open with a quarter-final exit before losing in the first round of the German Open and in the round of 16 at Eastbourne.

Head-to-head records

The 2023 Wimbledon finalists have faced each other six times. Vondrousova has won their two most recent meetings in straight sets at Indian Wells and in three sets at the Australian Open. Jabeur’s last triumph was on clay in Stuttgart last year, and she also won in Eastbourne in 2021.
