‘Women’s jersey ka winning asar’ – Fans react as Mumbai Indians continue their domination over KKR with five-wicket win in IPL 2023

The action returned in the Indian Premier League 2023 with a doubleheader on Sunday. In the day’s first match, the struggling Mumbai Indians hosted Kolkata Knight Riders in the Wankhede Stadium. At the same time, the second will be a rematch of last season’s final between defending champions Gujarat Titans and the runners-up Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first. The Knight Riders started off disastrously, losing both their openers cheaply. However, Venkatesh Iyer’s century batting at number three made up for the slow start. The KKR innings remained almost a single-man show, with Andre Russel with 21 off 11 making the only worthwhile contribution. KKR closed out at 185/6 from their 20 overs, with Iyer top scoring with 104 off 51.

For Mumbai Indians, Hrithik Shokeen remained the pick of the bowlers with two wickets from four overs, conceding 34 runs. Cameron Green, Duan Jansen, Piyush Chawla and Riley Meredith returned with one wicket apiece.

In reply, Mumbai Indians started off aggressively, reaching 65 before Rohit Sharma’s (20 off 13) dismissal inside 4.5 overs. Ishan Kishan scored 58 off 25, accelerating Mumbai’s innings to the maximum. After his wicket, stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav (43 off 25) took charge with Tilak Varma (30 off 25). Tim David’s final flourish of 24 off 13 took Mumbai over the finish line by 5 wickets.

For KKR, impact substitute Suyash Sharma took two wickets while conceding just 27 runs in his four overs. Lockie Ferguson, Varun Chakravarthy and Shardul Thakur returned with one scalp from the game.

Next, in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League, the Royal Challengers Bangalore will be hosting the Chennai Super Kings for the Southern Derby, to be played in the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. While RCB will be riding high after a dominant home performance against the Delhi Capitals, CSK are coming off a disappointing three-run loss to Rajasthan Royals at home in Chepauk.
