WPL 2024: Anticipating final standings for each team at the conclusion of the League stage

Published on

The highly anticipated Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) second season is almost here. The competition is set to begin on February 23 and end on March 17, 2024. The Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz are the five teams who will be competing. The Mumbai Indians, champions of the WPL 2023, will be defending their crown. Two venues will host the matches: M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi. The knockout stages will take place in Delhi.

5. Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore have a lot of stars in the team starting from Smriti Mandana to Ellyse Perry. Even though their batting department seems strong, their bowling department isn’t that effective. While playing in India, the teams need to have good spinners on their sides. However, RCB still doesn’t have any confirmed bowler other than Renuka Thakur. Thus, their hopes of winning the tournament might be shattered.

4. Gujarat Giants

The Gujarat team seems to be a bit sorted in terms of batters and bowlers as their team is balanced between experienced and inexperienced. Their bowling attack is versatile since it is well-balanced in terms of pace and spin. But it might be challenging for them to adjust to the intensity of the competition given that some key players are new to the WPL.

3. Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals is quite lucky as their captain, Meg Lanning, has retired from international cricket. Thus, she can dedicate all her time to WPL now. If DC can get past their weaknesses and build on their previous season’s achievements, they’ll have another fantastic WPL season. Even though the DC were one of the most consistent teams of the first season, they’ll look forward to continuing the momentum in the upcoming season as well.

2. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians won the WPL 2023 under Harmanpreet Kaur. Although the team seems sorted, the main issue with the team is the presence of a lot of overseas options. If MI manage to figure out the four overseas options, they have a good chance to win the WPL this year as well.

1. UP Warriorz

The UP Warriorz team is full of great spinners like Deepti Sharma, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, and Ecclestone. However, the matter of concern for them is the lack of pace attack. Although the batting line-up looks great, if they manage to do well with the pacers, then they have a fair chance of winning the tournament this year.
