WPL 2024 full schedule: Defending champions Mumbai Indians set to lock horns with Delhi Capitals in opening encounter on Feb 23

The second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) is set to commence on February 23. The defending champions, the Mumbai Indians, are set to face the finalists of WPL Edition 1, the Delhi Capitals, in the opening encounter. Notably, a total of 22 matches are scheduled to take place, commencing at 7:30 PM IST at new venues this time.

The opening match is set to start on February 23 at the M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore. Notably, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians were the successful champions of WPL 2023 as they went on to defeat the Delhi Capitals in the final game at DY Patil Cricket Stadium.

There will be five teams this time as well, and they are set to play around 22 matches at the new stadium this time. Notably, the WPL 2024 is set to take place at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore and Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Meanwhile, the WPL 2023 took place at Wankhede Cricket Stadium, DY Patil Stadium, and Braborne Stadium in Mumbai.

Speaking of the schedule, the top three teams will qualify for the playoffs, while the top team will get the spot directly in the final game. However, the second and third teams will fight for the final spot in the elimination game of the WPL 2024.

The WPL 2024 is set to boost the preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024

The WPL 2024 had successful auctions, and all five franchises have boosted their camps for the forthcoming editions. Notably, last year’s edition was a huge success for the host nation, which grabbed the fans’ attention towards women’s cricket, especially in countries like India. Moreover, a plethora of top cricketers, including the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant, were spotted in the final game of the WPL 2023.

Meanwhile, there are a few fresh talents that will be exciting to watch out for at the upcoming event. In addition, the upcoming WPL 2024 event is set to kick off the preparation for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which is slated to take place in September and October in the host country Bangladesh.
