‘It’s terrible on a mental health level, your morale….’ – Barcelona coach Xavier Hernandez to resign at end of season
The head coach of Barcelona, Xavier Hernandez, has publicly announced his decision to step down from the position at the end of the current season. Notably, the Spain-born footballer cited the challenging and “cruel” nature of his job after the club lost 3-5 to Villarreal in La Liga on Saturday. However, it seems that the decision was made following previous disappointments, such as Barcelona falling short of league leaders Real Madrid by 10 points in the Spanish Super Cup final and being eliminated from the Copa del Rey.
Xavier Hernandez revealed that he will leave the club on June 30th, and he has taken the decision with the president and his staff. In addition, the former midfielder feels the job is terrible, and he feels no sense about continuing such a job, which degrades his mental health. Moreover, the 44-year-old footballer is confident in his decision to step down.
“On June 30 I will leave the club, it’s a decision I have taken with the president, with the staff. The feeling of being Barca coach is cruel, unpleasant, it feels like people lack respect for you a lot of the time. It’s terrible on a mental health level, your morale … to the point where you think there is no sense in continuing. I’ve thought about the club and above all the players. I have the feeling that I am doing the right thing, that I am acting with common sense,” Xavi Hernandez said.
Have to thank the president for his confidence, we have a great president: Xavier Hernandez
Meanwhile, the Spanish-born star has thanked his club president and his staff, who have always believed in him and given him this wonderful opportunity. The great footballer reveals that the best thing for him to do is leave the position on June 30th.
“I was a solution two years and three months ago (when he was appointed), but now, thinking with my heart and about the club, for who I want the best, the best thing is for me to go on June 30. Have to thank the president (Joan Laporta) for his confidence, we have a great president,” he added further.
