Young India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved a unique feat after his debut Test match against West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica. The 21-year-old scored a big hundred in his first international match as he got out after scoring 171 runs off 387 balls with 16 fours and a six. He was also awarded the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock as India defeated the hosts by an innings and 141 runs to take a 1-0 in a two-match series.

With this, Jaiswal also became the first Indian batter to cross the 150-run mark on his debut in an overseas match. Notably, the veteran Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan holds the record for scoring the most runs on his Test debut for India when he played a 187-run knock against Australia in Mohali in 2013. The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is the second-highest scorer on his debut for India after he scored 177 runs against West Indies in Kolkata in 2013. This makes Jaiswal the third-highest-scoring Test debutant for India and the highest in overseas.

While Virat Kohli missed out on his 76th International century as he got out after scoring 76 runs off 182 balls hitting five boundaries.

Both Kohli and Jaiswal put up a partnership of 110 runs for the third wicket. Veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane didn’t have a great outing as he was dismissed by Kemar Roach after scoring just 3 runs. While Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten 37 runs off 82 balls along with Ishan Kishan as India go past 400 runs. For Windies, Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Rahkeem Cornwell, Jomel Warrican and Alick Athanaze shared a wicket each.

Coming to bat in the second innings, West Indies had a disastrous start as they lost 4 wickets for just 32 runs. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who took a fifer in the first innings, also thrashed the Windies’ batting lineup in the second innings as he scalped 7 wickets by conceding 71 runs in 21.3 overs. Athanaze was the top scorer with 28 runs off 44 balls as West Indies were bowled out for 130 runs in their second innings with 271 runs still short of India’s total.
