Rohit Sharma and Co. have locked horns against arch rivals Pakistan at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to commence their Super Fours campaign. Notably, India’s star batter, Shreyas Iyer, is not a part of the playing 11. Earlier, Pakistan’s skipper won the toss and invited the Men in Blue to bat first with no change in their playing team. In addition, the Men in Green are playing their second game of the Super Fours after defeating Bangladesh in their opening game on September 6 in Lahore.

Rohit Sharma mentioned about two notable changes in the team when Ravi Shastri asked him about the squad after the toss.  Moreover, one change was obviously expected, as star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is back in the squad over Mohammad Shami. However, the other change shocked everyone as KL Rahul got the nod over Shreyas Iyer owing to a back spasm. Following the skipper’s statement, a plethora of experts, fans, and former cricketers expressed disappointment about Iyer’s injury. Notably, the well-renowed cricket commentator Sanjay Manjrekar is one of them.

The former India cricketer turned analyst took an indirect dig at the skipper and team management by saying one needs to look out for the players to avoid problems over and over again. In addition, the former batter expresses happiness as the young batter, Ishan Kishan, gets a place in the squad.

“I’m just intrigued by Shreyas Iyer’s fitness, if that’s the case. He’s had a long layoff. The big story was that he’s fit now. He looked good in that 20-odd runs he scored against Pakistan. And now he got a back spasm. You got to start looking at players if there are such issues for captain and team management. We were waiting for him to come back, gave him first match and second match. It’s unfortunate, I’m just glad Ishan Kishan is playing,” Sanjay Manjrekar said on Star Sports following the toss.
