‘Ye kya din aagaye.. WTC se seedha Dindigul’ – Fans react as Ravichandran Ashwin set to participate in TNPL with Dindigul Dragons

Published on

After failing to make it into the Playing XI of the World Test Championship finals, ace India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is set to participate in Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023. In the upcoming season of domestic T20 franchise cricket, Ashwin will represent Dindigul Dragons.

Notably, Ashwin was India’s leading wicket-taker in the World Test Championship Cycle 2021-23, hence his exclusion from India’s eleven for the final came as a great surprise to the fans. Former cricketers slammed the Indian team’s management for leaving out Ashwin as India fell to Australia by 209 runs at The Oval in London. Legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar slammed team management and said no one treats the No. 1 player like this.

He said, “No other top-class Indian cricketer in the modern era has been treated as bafflingly as Ashwin has been. Tell me if there was a No. 1 ICC-ranked batter in the team, would he have been left out of the playing XI just because in earlier times he had not got runs on a grassy pitch or if he had not scored runs on a dry spin-friendly pitch? Not.”

Will Ashwin lead Dindigul to their maiden TNPL title?

Notably, since its inception in 2016, Ravichandran Ashwin has been a key member of Dindigul Dragons in the TNPL. In last year’s tournament, he played just one game as Dindigul finished sixth in the eight-team tournament. Ashwin will be keen to get more chances and will be looking to get the glory for the first time. Dindigul Dragons have reached finals twice but are yet to win their maiden title.

Ashwin was earlier seen at Dindigul’s auction table in February 2023 before he was added to the squad along with Varun Chakravarthy. Ashwin recently grabbed 14 wickets for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2023. On Wednesday, June 14, Dindigul will play Ba11sy Trichy at Coimbatore’s SNR College Cricket Ground to begin their campaign.
