‘Ye pange hamesha Bangladesh ke saath hi hote hai” – Fans react as Smriti Mandhana criticizes umpires decisions in third ODI

The third ODI between India and Bangladesh Women turned out to be a thrilling contest. It was the decider of the series in Dhaka and Bangladesh played exceedingly well and pushed India all the way. Opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted 225 runs in their 50 overs. It was the highest score posted by Bangladesh against India in the history of ODIs.

Chasing the target, India was going well at one stage. Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol were involved in a 107-run partnership for the third wicket. Madhana scored 59 and Deol scored 77 runs. India was 191/4 after 41 overs and needed only 35 runs in 9 overs with 6 wickets in hand. At that point, India was the favourite by some margin.

Collapse from the Indian batting unit

What followed later was an epic collapse from the Indian batters. Deol’s wicket was the turning point. The runout changed the game completely. After Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma was the next one to get dismissed by run out. India lost two wickets in a matter of 5 deliveries due to a lack of communication between the batters in the middle.

Amanjot Kaur did support Jemimah Rodrigues well. But the wicket of Kaur was another turning point in the match. The leg before the wicket was a controversial decision. Sneh Rana and Devika Vaidya were dismissed in the same over by Nahida Akter. Meghna Singh tried her best to stay in the middle. She scored some runs and helped India to level the scores.

It was her dismissal that marked the end of the game, as the match ended in a tie. Bangladesh celebrated it like a win. There were some controversial decisions in the match. Speaking about the same, Mandhana said, “We expect a little better level of umpiring. It was very evident in some decisions, there was not even a second thought given if the ball hit the pad” and expressed her disappointment. The Southpaw echoed the opinions of her captain and mentioned the lack of application from the umpires.
