‘Ye to dhaga khol raha hai’ – Fans react as Matthew Hayden slams Rohit Sharma for poor-run in IPL 2023

Published on

Former Australia all-rounder Matthew Hayden slammed Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma for his poor form in IPL 2023. The five-time champions MI were handed over a 62-run in Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad by the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and missed the chance to make it into their seventh IPL final.

MI seemed to be struggling to get into the playoffs in the first half of the tournament but made a great comeback in the second half and finished the league stage by standing fourth at the points table. Throughout the season, there have been tremendous batting performances from MI along with the likes of Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera, Cameron Green, and Tim David.

Star batter Suryakumar Yadav also didn’t had a great start to the season but got his touch back after a few matches and went on to smash his maiden IPL century against GT. However, the skipper Rohit Sharma didn’t had a memorable season as he only scored 332 from 16 matches at an average of 20.75, including two fifties. He couldn’t find his touch even in Qualifier 2 as Mohammed Shami dismissed him on 8 runs off seven balls.

‘Never saw Rohit Sharma performing when his team needs him the most’ – Hayden

Matthew Hayden, who was doing commentary that time expressed his disappointment on the MI skipper, adding that he never performs when his team needs him the most. “Never saw Rohit Sharma performing when his team needs him the most, whether it’s for India or MI,” Hayden said during his commentary stint.

As the 16th edition of IPL is finally over, Rohit will now be seen leading the Indian team in the upcoming Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval in England from June 7 to June 11. Fans will be hoping for the Indian skipper to go big in the title clash against the Aussies as India are awaiting their first international trophy since 2013.

Indian squad for the Test Championship final:
Rohit Sharma (captain), Ravichandran Ashwin, KS Bharat, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Axar Patel, Ajinkya Rahane, Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Jaydev Unadakt, Umesh Yadav.
