‘Ye to expected thaa’ – Fans react as Ishan Kishan is set to play wicketkeeper-middle order batter’s role for Asia Cup

Rohit Sharma and Co. are all set to face Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka, during the Asia Cup 2023. According to reports, India star batter Ishan Kishan will be the wicketkeeper-batsman after LSG skipper KL Rahul is unavailable for the first two matches, as confirmed by head coach Rahul Dravid last week.  Notably, Mumbai Indians batter Ishan Kishan might be looking to open, as he and Shubman Gill performed well in that role during India’s most recent ODI series against the West Indies after skipper Rohit Sharma made his way to the bench.

In addition, the squad would need to figure out where to fit the left-handed batter considering that Rohit has returned to the side and will be taking up one opening spot. According to the Indian Express, the sources claim that the 25-year-old batter will play in the middle order over opening the game. In addition, the squad will try him at position 4 or 5 during the matches against Pakistan and Nepal.

No one should say, I am good at this position or I am good at that position: Rohit Sharma

Meanwhile, during the press conference after releasing the Asia Cup squad on August 21, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma said the players could play at any position. In addition, the 36-year-old batter talks about flexibility, which allows players to bat at any position. Moreover, the right-handed batter also says that no player can claim any fixed position to bat in the lineup. Notably, his statement reveals that one may have to see experimentation with the players during the Asia Cup.

“You need flexibility, guys who can step up at any position. No one should say, ‘I am good at this position or I am good at that position’. You want guys to be able to bat anywhere, that’s the message conveyed to every individual. Not now, but over the last three-four years,” Rohit Sharma said during the press conference.
