‘Ye to shuru hote hi khtm ho gaya’ – Fans react as West Indies get bowled out for 150 runs in first innings on Day 1 of Dominica Test

On Day 1 of the 1st Test, India dominated the West Indies with an all-round performance. After winning the toss, West Indies skipper K. Braithwaite opted to bat first. His decision didn’t go well with the team, as the hosts were bundled up for just 150 runs. In response, India scored 80 runs until stumps without losing a wicket.

Earlier, ace India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin created a hole in the West Indies batting line-up. He dismissed both openers in quick succession to give India a dominating start. India didn’t lose grip and continued to take wickets at regular intervals. For hosts, Alick Athanaze showed some fight as he scored 47 runs off 99 balls with the help of six boundaries and a six.

For India, Ashwin made a blistering comeback after getting dropped in the World Test Championship 2023 Final. He clinched five wickets and finished with the figures of 24.3-6-60-5. Apart from him, spinner Ravindra Jadeja also got two scalps, while pacers Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur got one wicket each.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal batted out the third session

In the last session of Day 1, India came to bat against the West Indies. India came out with a new opening pair in skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both teams dominated the hosts with the bat and scored 80/0 before stumps. Jaiswal, in his debut inning, scored an unbeaten 40 runs off 73 balls with the help of six boundaries. Meanwhile, captain Rohit scored an unbeaten 30 runs off 65 balls with the help of three boundaries and a six.

Notably, India is trailing behind the West Indies by 70 runs in the first inning. The team will be looking to post a huge total and win the game in a dominating way. Earlier in the day, two Indian players made their debuts for India. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal received his debut Test Cap from captain Rohit Sharma, while wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan received it from Virat Kohli.
