Following their victory in the solitary Test against England, the Indian team geared up for the Australian challenge. The game was certainly the way the Indian fans would have expected. It was the Indian Women’s team who registered an incredible performance to win the Test match by eight wickets. This win is special as it is the first time that Indian women have registered their first-ever Test win against the Australian Women’s team.

Earlier, in the game, it was Australian skipper Alyssa Healy who won the toss and elected to bat first. The first Innings for the visitors was a great performance as they posted 219 runs. For Australia, it was a valiant effort from Tahlia McGrath (50) and Beth Mooney (40) to help Aussies post that total. For India, it was Pooja Vastrakar who took four wickets in the first innings.

In reply, the Indian team demonstrated a resilient effort in their first innings, accumulating a total of 406 runs. The Indian openers, Smriti Mandhana (74) and Shafali Verma (40) set the foundation, followed by significant contributions from Richa Ghosh (52) and Jemimah Rodrigues (73). The star all-rounder, Deepti Sharma (78), and Pooja Vastrakar (47) played crucial roles, guiding India to a total of over 400 in their first innings. This marks the team’s second consecutive innings where they surpassed the 400-run mark.

India creates history by defeating the Australian team

Despite securing a 186-run lead in the first innings, the Indian Women’s team aimed for an innings victory. However, the determined Australian batting displayed a spirited effort in the second innings. While they navigated the spin well, they struggled against Sneh Rana’s off-break, leading to her four-wicket haul and limiting them to 261 runs. The stars of the show for Australia were Ellyse Perry (45) and Tahlia McGrath (73).

In reply to the modest total of 75 runs to win the game. The Indian batting did not have the best of ten starts as the opening batter Shefali Verma (4) was dismissed off the bowling of Kim Garth. For the second wicket, both Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh ensured that India crossed the line. It was Richa who felt just at the verge of victory but Jemimah Rodrigues ensured that the team crossed the line without further loss of wickets.
