‘Yeh kya fresh paan thuuke ho’ – Fans react as LSG shares first look of their special jersey in ‘Mohun Bagan colours’ for game against KKR

In the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), LSG players will wear the green and maroon colours of Mohun Bagan, the legendary Indian football club. It won’t be a daydream because it will actually happen at the iconic Eden Gardens of Kolkata.

Shah Rukh Khan is, undoubtedly, a popular man in Kolkata. It makes sense that Kolkata would be proud of its team’s performance who are yet alive in IPL 2023. However, when MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli respectively represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the City of Joy, the fans in the Eden Garden’s stands were divided. The Bengali owner of the Lucknow Super Giants (SLG), Sanjeev Goenka, has now devised yet another genius plan.

Eden Gardens have struggled to attarct home support in IPL 2023

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans painted the Eden Garden in yellow throughout the current season as a tribute to MS Dhoni, abandoning KKR’s colours. On May 20, if anything similar occurs once more at Kolkata, it won’t be shocking if the fans are once more divided. Mohun Bagan’s official colours are green and maroon.

Notably, Sanjeev Goenka is the same person who owns both Mohun Bagan and LSG. Therefore, for the people of Kolkata, green and maroon are the colours of everlasting emotions. On May 20, LSG will compete wearing a green and maroon jersey as a tribute to Mohun Bagan at Eden Gardens.

Lucknow still has a mathematical chance to advance to the IPL playoffs, although KKR’s way forward could not be anymore steeper. The KKR vs LSG match is already exciting. It’s because Gautam Gambhir, the Super Giants’ coach, has led KKR two IPL titles while serving as their captain.

Next Saturday, Lucknow will visit Kolkata, sporting the green-maroon kit! This is a brilliant move on the part of Sanjeev Goenka. Mohun Bagan supporters will back the visiting team when Lucknow faces KKR. Last year, ATK Mohun Bagan won the Indian Super League (ISL) title. From the upcoming season, the team will be known as Mohun Bagan Super Giants.
