Asia Cup 2023
‘Yeh log humesha aise hi bolte hai’ – Fans react as Rohit Sharma gives major injury update on Shreyas Iyer as India look ahead to Australia ODI series
Team India won the eighth title of the Asia Cup 2023 after defeating Sri Lanka on September 17 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Co. restricted the home team to a score of just 50 runs, which allowed them to register a 10-wicket win against the hosts. Meanwhile, India’s great cricketers Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer didn’t get the nod to make the finals owing to the injuries they sustained earlier in the tournament.
Speaking on the subject, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has provided fresh updates on their injuries. The 36-year-old skipper revealed that the middle-order batter wasn’t fully fit to play in the final of the Asia Cup 2023. However, he further revealed that Shreyas Iyer has recovered almost 99%. The opening batter also talked about Iyer practising on the ground to make himself available for the three matches of the ODI series against Australia.
I should say Shreyas Iyer is alright 99 percent as of now: Rohit Sharma
“Shreyas was not available for this game because certain parameters were kept for him to tick off. I think today, he completed most of it. I should say he is alright 99 per cent as of now. But he looks good, he batted and fielded for long hours, and he was on the ground long before we came to the ground. I don’t think it is a worry for us,” Rohit Sharma said during the press conference.

That's amazing to hear! Shreyas Iyer has definitely proven himself, crossing off most of the set parameters. This calls for a celebration! Can't wait to see him shine on the field. Keep soaring, Shreyas! 🏏🎉

In addition, Rohit Sharma also says that great all-rounder Axar Patel will take at least 10 days to fully recover, and he may miss the first two matches of the ODI series against Australia. “Axar had a small tear. It looks like maybe it will take a week or 10 days (to heal), I don’t know. We have to see how that injury progresses. Some guys recover quickly, and I hope that’s the case with him. I am not sure whether he will be able to play the first two games against Australia at home. But we will wait and see,” he added further.
