‘Yeh toh Kiwis ka Moye Moye ho gaya’ – Fans react as Australia beat New Zealand in a nail-biting 1st T20I

Published on

In a last-ball thriller between New Zealand and Australia, the visitors silenced the crowd as they hit a boundary in the last ball to win the match. Australia needed 6 runs in two balls with Tim David on the strike and Mitchell Marsh in the non-striker end. As Southee bowled the 2nd last ball, David ran as fast as he could to take two runs. Then, four runs were required off one ball with David on strike again. This time, David hit the ball into the gap at cow corner and the fielders could not stop it.

On winning the toss, New Zealand chose to bat first. While Finn Allen and Devon Conway gave the team a brilliant start, Rachin Ravindra scored a half-century. With the help of the top order, the Kiwis scored 215 runs at the loss of three wickets. Conway and Ravindra scored 63 and 68 runs, respectively. Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh and Pat Cummins took one wicket each.

For Australia, other than Mitchell Marsh, no other player reached the 40-run mark. Tim David gave a hard time to the Kiwis as he helped the Australians win the match. While Marsh scored 72 runs off 44 balls, David scored 31 runs off 10 balls. Their partnership was the reason the Aussies won the match. Moreover, Mitchell Santner took two wickets for the Kiwis. Mitchell Marsh got the Player of the Match award for an all-round performance.

‘We’re very lucky to have him’ – Mitchell Marsh praises Tim David for his contribution

As Australia won the 1st T20I in the last ball, Mitchell Marsh was awarded the Player of the Match. As the player won the match for his team, he was modest enough to praise his teammates in the post-match presentation. Moreover, he gave special attention to Tim David who was the real hero for Australia.

March said, “Timmy David is extremely calm and has got a lot of confidence in his ability towards the end there. We’re very lucky to have him. Just a great game of cricket. Any time you chase down 216 is a great effort. We just got over the line by the sheer brilliance of Tim David. We’ve got the Test series starting in a week so our bowlers will likely rotate. We’ve also got guys like Steve Smith who will come in for a crack at some point in time.”
