‘Yogi sab pe bhaari’ – Fans react as UP franchise defeats the Mumbai franchise by 5 wickets in Womens T20 League

In the 15th match of the Women’s T20 League, the Mumbai franchise locked horns against the UP side at the DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai on Saturday, March 18. The UP side won the match by five wickets and all-rounder Deepti Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match for his all-round performance in the match.

The UP franchise skipper Alyssa Healey won the toss and elected to bowl first. Both teams were unchanged from their last match. Batting first, the Mumbai side was bundled out for 127 runs on the last ball of their innings. The top scorer for them was their opener, Hayley Mathews, who scored 35 runs off 30 balls with one four and three sixes.

Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scored 25 runs off 22 balls with three fours. In the end, England’s Issy Wong scored a quickfire knock of 32 runs off 19 balls which included four fours and a six. For the UP side, the pick of the bowler, was England all-rounder Sophie, who grabbed three wickets in her spell of four overs and conceded just 15 runs.

Australians help UP to victory

Women in Blue Deepti Sharma also snapped two wickets in her spell of four overs and gave away 35 runs. The left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gaywad also bagged two wickets and conceded just 16 runs in her spell of four overs. One wicket was taken by young Anjali Sarvani in her spell of two overs and conceded just 10 runs.

While chasing a target of 128, the UP side lost the first three wickets at a score of just 27 runs. Devika Vaidya, Healy and Kiran Navgire again failed to score runs. Vaidya was able to score only one runs, whereas Healy scored only 8 runs before getting dismissed.

Australia’s duo of all-rounders, Grace Harris and Tahila McGrath took the UP side close to victory. Harris scored 39 runs off 28 balls which included seven fours, whereas on the other hand, McGrath scored 38 runs from 25 balls with six fours and a six. After the dismissal of two Kangaroo all-rounders, Deepti and Ecclestone guided their side to the victory.
